The warehouse partII

After that night at the warehouse, everything changed.

But I didn’t show it.

The next morning, I came down early, made pancakes with strawberries, and hummed while I cleaned the counters. I smiled when Daniel entered the kitchen, and when he asked if everything was okay, I nodded like nothing had ever happened.. l

He watched me closely.

For the first time, I felt like prey.

Nicole still clung to me every moment we were alone.

She refused to speak to Daniel, wouldn’t look him in the eye. At night, she curled beside me in my bed, her tiny hand wrapped around mine like an anchor.

She didn’t say much, but one night, just before she drifted off, she whispered, he hurt he hurt mommy.Mommy.”

I held her tighter, my heart breaking and boiling all at once. That day, while Daniel worked in his office, I made my move.

I slipped into the downstairs bathroom and locked the door. My hands were shaking as I pulled out my phone. I texted a number I never thought I’d use: my cousin Mark, who worked in the local police He responded within minutes..I stared at the message for a long time. Then I erased it, flushed the toilet, and stepped back into the nightmare.

That evening, Daniel asked if I’d join him in the study.

I said yes, heart pounding.

He poured two glasses of wine and motioned for me to sit on the leather couch. He stood by the fireplace, swirling the glass in his hand. He looked at me, and his smile was gone. She belongs to a

His voice grew darker. He said in a low tone tell me lily have you ever been in love ?yes Mr Daniel I said trying to hurry my shaky voice ,have you ever been betrayed? what is the  good punishment to a traitor huh? tell me nanny. is.”

I felt sick. But I just nodded, eyes wide, pretending to understand, while I was confused with so many questions.

I made pasta for dinner. I laughed at Daniel’s terrible jokes. I gave Nicole a bath and braided her hair.

But every second, I was counting the minutes.

Waiting.

Praying.

At exactly 10:47 p.m., while I was reading Nicole a bedtime story, I heard it.

Three sharp knocks at the door.

I froze.

Daniel called from downstairs, “I’ll get it.”

I scooped Nicole into my arms, whispering, “It’s okay, baby. It’s going to be okay.”

Downstairs, I heard voices. Firm, professional.

Then… shouting.

A crash.

And Daniel yelling, “You have no idea what she’s done! She tricked me! She lied!” she cheated on me that woman you’re saving is a traitor! all women are look at lily I thought she understood…let me goo!

Footsteps thundered up the stairs. A uniformed officer appeared in the doorway, and for the first time in days, I breathed again. i had made a plan with mark that they will plan an operation at night so Daniel wouldn’t notice I just had to pretend everything was normal. I felt at ease now I couldn’t stop my tears flowing freely. They found Marie in that same creepy warehouse. Malnourished. Weak. Her wrists bruised, her voice hoarse.

But alive.

She cried when she saw Nicole, collapsing into sobs, reaching out with shaking hands.

Daniel didn’t cry.

He didn’t fight.

He just sat on the back porch, cuffs on his wrists, staring into the dark, his vision hollow. That night, I didn’t sleep, I just felt like Daniel would appear somewhere.

I lay in bed with Nicole curled beside me, safe for the first time in too long. Marie was at the hospital I stared out the window, past the fountain and the roses, toward the cold gray warehouse that no longer held secrets.

And I promised myself something:

We would never speak his name again.
